ROCHESTER - Martin Matejcek tied a four-year-old MCC record with six goals as the Tribunes defeated the Syracuse Stampede 11-3 Friday evening.
Matejcek scored twice in the second period to help Monroe erase an early 2-0 deficit, and then added four more goals in the third period as the Tribunes ran away with it.
His effort came four years to the day of the previous mark of six goals, set by Aaron Hildreth in a win over County College of Morris, Dec. 13, 2009.
Syracuse reclaimed the lead at 3-2 midway through the second period before Seth Hamilton knotted the game at the 14:06 mark. John Papas then came through with the eventual game-winner with 4:36 left in the period.
MCC (12-1) put the game away with seven unanswered goals over the final 20 minutes.
Tyler Underhill finished with two goals and an assist and Papas had two goals as well. Dominik Gabaj dished out four assists and Cameron Randles had three helpers.
Jon Brown made 22 saves in goal.
