ROCHESTER - Not even a slow start against a quality Region III opponent could slow down the MCC Tribunes ice hockey team.
MCC fell behind 2-0 early in the first period before storming back. The end result was a 12-4 victory and the team's sixth win in as many games to begin the season. That includes a perfect 5-0 mark against regional opponents.
Cory Della Stua staked the Hornets to their lead with a pair of goals in the first 7:13 of the contest. The Tribunes then responded with five straight goals by five different players for a three-goal advantage.
Broome fought back with two straight to cut the lead to 5-4 6:38 into the second, but Monroe then finished the game on a 7-0 run to win comfortably.
Dominik Gabaj and Pavel Guzmin each finished with three goals and one assist to lead Monroe. John Papas added a goal and four assists, Martin Matejcek had a goal and three assists, and Zach Coughlin a goal and two helpers.
Seth Hamilton, Cameron Randles, and Jay Croop all added a goal and an assist apiece.
The Tribunes peppered Broome goalie Dylan Snyder with 68 shots on the game. Snyder made 56 saves.
