ROCHESTER - The MCC women's basketball team rose to the top spot as the NJCAA released its first Division II national rankings of the season on Tuesday. A day later, the Lady Tribunes backed up the lofty honor.
Lanay Rodney led a balanced attack with 31 points, and Monroe put up 57 in the first half on its way to a 102-53 win over Erie Community College on Monagan Court. The win was the 12th in a row for MCC, which improved to 4-0 in conference and 14-1 overall.
Rodney continued her dominant play of late, finishing 13-for-21 from the floor while pulling down 11 rebounds. Torrie Cash also had a double-double, tallying 20 points and 13 boards to go along with six assists and a pair of steals.
MCC added to its nation-best 3-point total, knocking down 14 from beyond the arc on the night. The Tribunes also forced 20 Kat turnovers and held a 58-47 edge on the glass.
Shalix Hines chipped in with 12 points, seven assists, and three steals. Samirah Henderson, Sierra Green, and Erica Abitante all scored 10.
