Player of the Year Gabaj leads All-Region selections
The freshman also earns Rooke of the Year honors.
ROCHESTER - Record-setting MCC forward Dominik Gabaj headlined a handful of Tribunes who were named to the All-Region III and All-Rookie teams.
Gabaj, a freshman from Bratislava, Slovakia, was named both the regional Player of the Year as well as Rookie of the Year after leading Monroe to a 21-1-1 mark in the regular season. The nation's top scorer, Gabaj has 36 goals and has set MCC single-season marks with 49 assists and 85 points.
He has also tied the single-game mark of eight points on two different occasions this season.
Gabaj was joined on the All-Region first team by a pair of other freshmen, forward Martin Matejcek and defenseman Kevin Cortivo.
Matejcek has scored a program-record 39 goals this season, and he equaled another mark with six goals in a single game. He also has 36 assists and is second in the NJCAA with 75 points.
Cortivo has helped anchor a sold defense while also chipping in with three goals and 20 assists.
Freshman forward Pavel Kuzmin and sophomore defenseman Daniel Martensson were named All-Region second teamers. Kuzmin has 25 goals and 24 assists, and his 49 total points are good for third in the nation. Martensson has three goals and 13 assists on the season. He was also an All-Region selection a year ago.
Matejcek and Cortivo also joined Gabaj on the All-Rookie team.
