Jul 13, 2026

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe Community College Assistant Athletic Director and Head Men's Soccer Coach Craig Dewar has been named the 2025-26 Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Distinguished Person of the Year, recognizing his exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and outstanding service to Monroe Community College Athletics.

The award honors individuals who have made a significant impact on their institution, student-athletes, and the conference through exemplary commitment and professionalism. Few embody those qualities more than Dewar.

During the 2025-26 academic year, Dewar served in multiple critical leadership roles, including Interim Director of Athletics, Assistant Athletic Director, Head Men's Soccer Coach, and the department's eligibility and compliance coordinator. Throughout a year of transition, he helped provide stability and continuity while ensuring the department continued to operate at the highest level.

Whether working with student-athletes, supporting coaches, overseeing compliance, or navigating the day-to-day responsibilities of the athletic department, Dewar consistently demonstrated a selfless commitment to Monroe Community College and its mission.

Despite navigating significant personal challenges throughout the year, Dewar never wavered in his commitment to the department, his colleagues, or the student-athletes he serves. His resilience, professionalism, and positive attitude became an example for everyone around him.

"Craig is the definition of servant leadership," said Director of Athletics Zach Stevenson. "He is someone who quietly goes about his work every day, never seeking recognition, but always putting the needs of our student-athletes, coaches, and department ahead of his own. Since arriving at Monroe, I've seen firsthand the respect he has earned throughout our campus and conference. This recognition is incredibly well deserved."

As head coach of the Tribune men's soccer program, Dewar has built a culture centered on accountability, development, and academic success. Off the field, he plays an equally important role in ensuring Monroe's student-athletes remain eligible and supported throughout their academic journeys while helping oversee many of the operational responsibilities that keep the department moving forward.

Receiving the WNYAC Distinguished Person of the Year Award serves as a fitting recognition for someone whose impact often happens behind the scenes but is felt throughout every aspect of Monroe Community College Athletics.

Monroe Community College congratulates Craig Dewar on this well-earned honor and thanks him for his continued dedication, leadership, and service to Tribune Athletics.
