MCC student-athletes, teams honored for work in classroom
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The NJCAA national office announced the student-athletes who have earned distinction on one of three prestigious 2017-18 NJCAA All-Academic Teams following their success in the classroom.
Monroe Community College was well represented, as 29 student-athletes were lauded for their academic achievement. It is the highest number of Tribunes to be honored in a single year since the NJCAA began annually recognizing the academic success of its student-athletes in 1983. MCC had 27 athletes honored in 2016-17
In addition, the Tribune women's soccer (3.53), softball (3.26), and volleyball (3.19) teams were recognized for attaining cumulative GPAs above 3.0. The women's soccer team had the second highest GPA of any women's soccer squad in the country.
The NJCAA gives out awards in three honor categories. Students must complete 24 semester hours with the following GPA benchmarks:
NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA
