MCC places sixth in race for NATYCAA Cup
The Tribunes are once again among the top programs in the nation.
CLEVELAND - The Monroe Community College athletic program has finished in sixth place in the scholarship division for the 2013-2014 NATYCAA Cup.
Rankings in the NATYCAA Cup are formulated by awarding NJCAA institutions with points based on competition at NJCAA Championship events. A first-place finish is worth 20 points; second place is worth 19 points; etc. The top five male and female finishes from each school qualify for points in the standings.
Iowa Western CC won the Scholarship Division, finishing with 169.5 points. Iowa Central was second with 166 points, and Tyler Junior College was third with 150.5.
Monroe was led by the women's lacrosse team, which won its second straight NJCAA national championship and fourth in five years. The Tribune ice hockey team was runner-up at nationals in its final season of competition.
The men's golf team captured fourth place, while the men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, and softball teams all finished fifth at their respective national tournaments.
The 2013-2014 academic year marks the 11th year of the NATYCAA Awards Program. NATYCAA (National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators) is the national organization of all two-year athletic administrators from the United States.
MCC took top honors in 2006 and 2007, and has finished second four other times.
