MCC cruises in Pavia opener
Five players hit double figures in the big win.
ROCHESTER – Tyra Jones (Rochester, NY/East) led five players in double figures with 14 as the MCC women's basketball team routed Pitt-Titusville 88-24 at the Pete Pavia Tournament Saturday evening.
The win was the fifth in a row for Monroe, which is now 6-4 on the season. The Tribunes forced 36 turnovers and had 22 steals on the night.
Jones was 7-for-8 from the field and also pulled down five rebounds. Donisha Watson (Bronx, NY/Mt. Vernon) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Tyese Purvis (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) chipped in with 11 points, seven boards, and four steals.
Alexis Johnson (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton) and Ayana Ratliff (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) added 11 points apiece. Sydni Lester (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) tallied eight assists and four steals.
