ROCHESTER - Freshman forward Dominik Gabaj set a new MCC record for assists in a single season as the Tribunes defeated Rochester Junior 'A' 6-2 Thursday night.
Gabaj figured in five of the six Monroe goals, accounting for two goals and three assists. The three helpers give him 37 for the season in just 15 games.
The old record of 34, which Gabaj tied Wednesday against Oswego, was held by Josh Bechard from the 2009-2010 season. Bechard's mark was set in 24 games.
The Tribunes are now 14-1 on the season and have won eight in a row.
Rochester jumped out to a quick lead with a goal just 55 seconds in. Pavel Kuzmin then evened things up with a goal midway through the period. Gabaj added his first goal just over a minute later to make it 2-1 before Rochester tied it up heading to the second.
Tyler Underhill then came through with the eventual game-winner with the only goal of the period.
The Tribunes tacked on three more in the third to pull away. Tom Hanna, Gabaj, and Kuzmin scored.
Underhill also tacked on two assists, as did Kevin Cortivo.
