JAMESTOWN, NY - Four players reached double figures in points as the MCC men's basketball team defeated Columbus State 72-69 in the opening round of the Post-Journal Classic at Jamestown Community College Saturday.
The Tribunes (12-1) will take on host Jamestwon at 2 p.m. Sunday for the title.
Tashawn Desir (Brooklyn, NY/Nia Prep) led the way with 14 points for Monroe. The freshman point guard hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to help ice the game.
Jahvari Josiah (Brooklyn, NY/Beach Channel) and Arnold Fripp (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Collegiate) added 13 points and five rebounds apiece.
Dallas Gary (Buffalo, NY/East) also hit double digits with 11 points for MCC, which shot 51 percent total from the field and was 6-of-12 from beyond the arc on the game.
