MCC student-athletes honored for academics
Nine athletes lauded by NJCAA.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The NJCAA national office announced the 2014-15 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards Wednesday. Monroe Community College was well represented, as nine student-athletes were lauded for their work in the classroom.
The NJCAA honors student-athletes who have earned a 3.60 grade point average or higher while accumulating at least 45 credit hours with a minimum of three full-time semesters.
Rose Louk led the Monroe contingent of athletes. The standout swimmer accumulated 73 credit hours at a 3.94 grade point average to earn Superior Academic Achievement honors (3.80-3.99 GPA).
Joining Louk in earning Superior Academic honors were: Jessica Jenkins (volleyball; 3.92), David Wright (men's soccer; 3.91), Emily Butler (volleyball; 3.91), Mike DiStefano (baseball; 3.83), and Lynne Pierce (softball; 3.80).
Three other athletes earned Exemplary Academic Achievement for carrying GPA's between 3.60 and 3.79. Those honored were: Mike Klugo (men's swimming and diving; 3.71), Louis Giuliano (men's soccer; 3.63), and Gia George (softball; 3.62).

Formerly known as NJCAA Academic All-America honors, the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards program has annually recognized the academic success of the association’s student-athletes since the program’s inception in 1983. Nominations are submitted by each student-athlete’s respective institution.
