MCC volleyball wins three matches in opening regional pod

BATAVIA, New York - The MCC volleyball team kicked off the regional portion of its schedule with three victories in a Region III pod tournament at Genesee Community College on Saturday.

The Tribunes (8-0 overall) took down Hudson Valley and North Country 3-0 before holding off SUNY Adirondack 3-2 to finish an unbeaten day.

Monroe opened the day by defeating Hudson Valley 25-9, 25-15, 25-17.  Hannah DeLorenzo paced the attack with nine kills, eight digs, and 12 assists, while Julie Cicotta added seven kills and three aces.  Kierstin Hammond and Stephany Paredes tallied four kills apiece, and Catherine Brumsted had 14 assists. Hammond also added 14 digs.

The Tribunes followed that by defeating North Country 25-16, 25-9, 25-10. The service game was key, as Monroe pounded out 25 aces on the match. Brumsted led the way with 11 aces while also handing out 18 assists to finish with the double-double. Cicotta had nine aces to go along with five kills and seven digs.

DeLorenzo totaled 11 kills and five digs, and Paredes, Hammond, and Riley Moscicki had four kills each. Miley Davila and Maryssa Greer each had six digs.

MCC then finished the day with an exciting, five-set win over Adirondack.  Scores were 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 13-25, 15-12.

Cicotta had 11 kills and nine digs to lead the way. DeLorenzo and Hammond added eight kills apiece, while Brumsted had 21 assists, 10 digs, and six kills. Greer chipped in with 20 digs, and Paredes had four kills and five blocks.
