JOHNSTOWN, New York - For the third straight Saturday, the MCC volleyball team won two out of three matches at a Region III pod event.
The Tribunes (17-3) dropped a straight-set match to host Fulton-Montgomery to open the day. Monroe then rebounded to sweep Mohawk Valley and Herkimer to round out play. Monroe is 10-3 in the regional standings, which is currently good for fifth place.
MCC heads to Onondaga CC next weekend for the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament.
The Tribunes fell to Fulton-Montgomery 25-12, 25-16, 25-16. Andrea Green and Cherelle Grant led the way with eight kills apiece, with Green also contributing 10 digs and six blocks. Jessie Blumenfeld added 21 assists and 15 kills, while Alyssa Coates chipped in with 10 digs.
Monroe then battled back to take down Mohawk Valley 25-11, 25-11, 25-14. Green tallied 10 kills and nine digs and Tessa Engel chipped in with seven kills. A strong service game was key for MCC, as Engel, Jala McFadden, and Sam Ashman all recorded four aces.
MCC finished the day with a straight-set win over Herkimer, winning 25-19, 25-17, 25-19. Green had a huge all-around game with 17 kills, 11 digs, and seven blocks. Engel finished with 10 kills and nine digs, while Chelsea Steinruck contributed eight kills and six digs and Laura Wyckoff tallied five kills.
Blumenfeld registered 31 assists, and McFadden (13) and Coates (11) hit double figures in digs.
