MCC takes two out of three

JAMESTOWN, New York - The MCC volleyball team took two out of three matches at a Region III pod tournament at Jamestown Community College on Saturday.

The Tribunes defeated Erie and Niagara before falling to the host Jayhawks. Monroe is now 7-3 in regional play and 8-6 overall.

Tessa Engel and Jessica Marini both had double-doubles to pace Monroe to a 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20 win over Erie. Engel totaled 14 kills and 13 digs to go along with four aces, while Marini finished with 27 assists and 10 digs.

Andrea Green chipped in with nine kills, nine digs, and four blocks, Chelsea Steinruck added six kills, seven digs, and four aces, and Essence Britt had five kills and five digs.

The Tribunes then swept Niagara 25-12, 25-23, 25-7. Steinruck led the way with seven kills and 10 digs and Britt added six kills and four blocks. Engel and Green tallied five kills apiece. Marini dished out 17 assists.

Monroe fell to Jamestown 16-25, 12-25, 15-25 to close out the day. Britt had seven kills and five blocks and Engel added five kills and five digs.
