Tribune volleyball ends drought vs. Genesee

BATAVIA, New York - The MCC volleyball team picked up a signature win and ended a six-year drought vs. Genesee Community College, defeating the Cougars in three straight sets Thursday night.

The Tribunes prevailed by the scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. It was the team's first victory over the perennially-powerful Cougars since Oct. 4, 2008.

The win kept alive Monroe's season-opening winning streak, which has now reached 14 matches. MCC has also won 19 consecutive sets, dating back to a three-sets-to-two win over Adirondack on Sept. 13.

Dayle Taber had another strong match at the net for the Tribunes as the freshman outside hitter finished with 12 kills. She also had 12 digs to go along with three blocks.  Jessica Jenkins added 22 digs, and Montana Vescovi passed out 31 assists and had 11 digs.

Chelsey Luce finished with eight kills and six digs, and Rose Ayala added five kills and nine digs. Sarah Graham chipped in with five kills and two blocks, and Candice Greer tallied four kills and three blocks.

MCC is back in action in a Region III Pod tournament this Saturday at Niagara County Community College. The Tribunes will face Niagara, Erie, and Jamestown.
