MCC wins third straight Bryant Tourney
The MCC volleyball team won the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament for the third consecutive year, winning seven straight matches at Onondaga Community College Friday and Saturday.
ROCHESTER – The MCC volleyball team won the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament for the third consecutive year, winning seven straight matches at Onondaga Community College Friday and Saturday.
The Tribunes (29-3) defeated Herkimer County CC 25-23, 25-18 in the title match to cap the perfect weekend.
Monroe defeated Herkimer and Cayuga Friday and then wrapped up pool play with wins over Corning and Jefferson Saturday morning. MCC proceeded to defeat Jefferson again in the quarterfinals and Jamestown in the semifinals before taking down Herkimer.
Clara Engelhart (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) was named tournament Most Valuable Player. The sophomore setter totaled 180 assists and 52 digs over the course of the two days. She had 23 assists and seven digs in the championship match.
Denae Rinaldo (Canastota, NY/Canastota) also came up big in the title tile with eight kills and 18 digs. She had 60 kills on the weekend. Gabby Morey (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had 66 kills, including 20 in the quarterfinal win against Jefferson.
Erica Thompson (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished with 33 kills and 22 blocks. Claudia Villanueva (San Juan, PR/Eduardo Garcia Carillo) totaled 35 kills and 60 digs. Paige Calabrese (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added 107 digs.
