Monroe women in the lead after first day of regionals

ROCHESTER - On the strength of a pair of winning relays, the MCC women's swimming and diving team jumped out to an early lead after the first day of the 2017 Region III/Northeast District championship meet Friday.

The 200 free relay team of Alison Gregor, Megan Mack, Hallie Marquart, and Heather Chrisman started the meet with a win in a time of 1:48.57. The Tribunes then closed the day's action with a victory in the 400 medley relay, as Ashley VanDermeer, Chrisman, Gregor, and Mack won in 4:29.52.

The Tribunes have 137 points heading to the weekend. Fashion Institute of Technology is second with 122, and Genesee is third at 91.

Mack and Chrisman earned individual event wins as well. Mack took first in the 500 free (5:36.46), while Chrisman led the way in the 200 IM (2:18.75).

Gregor finished runner-up in the 50 free (26.51), with Marquart placing fourth (27.20).
