ROCHESTER - Kyrsten Stone did a bit of everything in MCC's contest with Genesee on Tuesday. Her efforts were key as the Tribunes held off a late charge to defeat the Cougars 20-14 in a Western New York Athletic Conference women's lacrosse battle.
Stone tallied five goals and four assists, scooped up a game-high seven ground balls, and also caused four Genesee turnovers as Monroe improved to 5-4 on the season. She even made two saves in goal, having taken over in the cage for the final two minutes following a red card.
She had four goals and four assists in the first half alone as the Tribunes built a 14-6 lead at the break. Stone added a goal early in the second as Monroe eventually took a 10-goal advantage.
Genesee battled back, however, scoring five of the last seven goals to crawl within distance. But time was on Monroe's side, and the clock expired before the Cougars could mount any more of a comeback.
Elissa Callaway added five goals and an assist and Emily Smith also scored five times for MCC. Makenzie Storto had four goals and one assist to go along with 15 draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Leah Di Domenico made 10 saves in goal for MCC.
