ROCHESTER - Kyrsten Stone had six goals and six assists, Emily Smith scored a career-high six goals, and the MCC women's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-5 victory over visiting Potomac State Sunday afternoon to cap a perfect opening weekend.
The Tribunes (2-0) were coming off a 29-2 win over North Country in their season opener on Saturday. The defending national champs have now won 97 consecutive games.
Just like Saturday, MCC wasted little time jumping out an early advantage against Potomac State. The Tribunes controlled the opening draw and raced down the field. Makenzie Storto then shot and scored for a 1-0 lead just 12 seconds into the game.
Stone then scored 47 seconds later to give Monroe a quick 2-0 lead. Storto and Stone added three more goals apiece as MCC led 13-2 at the break.
Smith and Stone both scored, and Elissa Callaway added a pair of goals, as the Tribunes built the lead to 17-3 early in the second. MCC would maintain the big lead en route to another win.
Storto finished with five goals on the day. Callaway had three goals and two assists, while Devin Stahlman had one goal and one assist. Sheridan Isaac added a goal, and Taylor Hartline dished out four assists.
Stone picked up a game-high seven ground balls, while Stahlman had six, and Hartline and Smith five apiece. Leah Di Domenico made three saves in goal.
MCC outshot Potomac State 38-11 and held a 35-18 edge in ground balls.
