ROCHESTER - The MCC women's lacrosse team began defense of it's 2018 NJCAA national title with a convincing, 29-2 victory over North Country Community College Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (1-0) dominated from the outset in pushing their overall winning streak to 96 games. The victory was the first for new head coach Debra Delfino.
The attack was led by sophomores Makenzie Storto and Kyrsten Stone, who each set a new MCC single-game record on the day. Storto finished with 10 goals, eclipsing the mark of nine set by Slyvia Queener on March 31, 2009. Stone totaled 17 points, shattering the old record of 13 scored by Theresa Catteau on April 30, 2011.
Storto also added five assists, and her 15 total points are now good for second in a single game in team history. Stone had nine goals herself and added eight assists.
Leah Di Domenico stopped four shots in goal for the Tribunes. Storto finished with 15 draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Stone scooped up a game-high eight ground balls, while Hartline added five and Olevnik four.
