ROCHESTER - The MCC women's lacrosse team closed the game on an incredible 11-0 run, breaking a second-half tie to come away with a 15-4 win over regional rival Onondaga Community College Sunday afternoon.
The victory moved the top-ranked Tribunes to 6-0 on the season, while No. 3 OCC dropped to 2-1.
Monroe saw an early four-goal lead evaporate as the Lazers went on a 4-0 run themselves spanning the halves. Molly Beck scored on a free position effort with 23:47 remaining to knot it at four.
The teams then went over 11 minutes without finding the back of the cage. Janee DeLuca broke the drought with a goal with 10:10 remaining to put MCC up three.
Monroe took control with a trio of goals in less than a minute. Kenzie Donahue got it started with an unassisted score with 9:20 left. After Shaffer won the ensuing draw, Adriana Williams scored off a DeLuca feed to make it 9-4. Kyrsten Stone then scored with 8:35 to go to push the Monroe advantage to six.
MCC added five goals down the stretch, while the Tribune defense pressured the Lazers into a handful of turnovers in the game's final minutes.
Williams and Donahue finished with three goals apiece to lead Monroe. Stone and Shaffer scored twice each, while DeLuca finished with a goal and three assists.
