Jones sparks Monroe past Erie, into regional finals

ROCHESTER - Freshman Kendall Jones registered a career-high nine points to lead the MCC women's lacrosse team to a 23-2 win over Erie Community College in the Region III semifinals Saturday afternoon.

The Tribunes (12-0) will face Onondaga Community College at 1 p.m. Sunday for the regional championship.

Jones provided the spark early, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals as Monroe jumped to a 6-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game. MCC scored the game's first 10 goals and led 11-1 at the break.

Jones then scored the first two in the second half as the Tribunes maintained control. She finished the game with four goals and five assists.

Christie Hahn chipped in with four goals and four assists for Monroe, which is in search of its sixth consecutive regional title. Taylor Excell had a fine all-around game, totaling four goals, four ground balls, and three draw controls.

Dana Isaacs added three goals and five draw controls and also caused a pair of Erie turnovers. Kara Spano, Se'Anna Beikirch, and Adriana Williams had two goals apiece. Mackenzie Donahue added a goal and two assists, while Morgan Hollenbeck tallied one goal and one helper.

Ashley Salvett finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers to lead a stingy MCC defense.

Sarah Annable was strong in goal for Monroe, stopping eight shots while allowing just two to get past.
