COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Entering the 2017 season as the four-time defending national champions, it's no surprise that the MCC women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA preseason national rankings.
The Tribunes will bring an incredible 68-game winning streak into the campaign, which will kick off at home on March 18 against fifth-ranked Anne Arundel Community College. Monroe has been atop the national poll for 25 straight weeks, dating to April 14, 2014.
MCC will play the other three teams ranked in the Top 5 as well. Following Anne Arundel, Monroe will welcome No. 3 Harford Community College to the DiMarco Field turf on March 25.
The Tribunes will head down the thruway to Syracuse on April 8 to take on Region III rival and second-ranked Onondaga. Monroe will then have a big road trip later that month, traveling to Maryland to play Anne Arundel and No. 4 Howard Community College April 17 and 18.
MCC brings back 10 sophomores from last year's 18-0 squad, including All-Americans Dana Isaacs and Charity Warner. Isaacs was responsible for 39 goals, a team-best 52 ground balls, as well as 38 draw controls and 19 forced turnovers.
Warner will anchor a defense that allowed an average of just four goals per game. The defensive MVP of last year's national tournament, Warner caused 17 turnovers to go with 33 ground balls and 44 draw controls.
Also returning is sophomore attack Christie Hahn, who tied for the team lead with 71 points on 27 goals and 44 assists. She is joined by Taylor Excell (29 goals) and faceoff specialist Morgan Hollenbeck (28 goals) to provide a powerful scoring punch.
