Tribunes claim regional title
MCC holds off Onondaga for its sixth championship.
HERKIMER, NY - The MCC women's lacrosse team continued its march to nationals by defeating Onondaga CC 13-10 Sunday to claim the program's sixth Region III championship.
The Tribunes (16-0) held an 8-5 advantage at the break and turned back the Lazers in the second half to get the win.
Monroe goalie Caitlin Cavallaro (Corning, NY/Corning East) was named tournament Most Valuable Player after stopping nine OCC shots in the title game. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Molly Gray (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman), Melanie Murphy (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Elizabeth Lacomb (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), and Kara Horn (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman).
Lacomb had a huge game, totaling five goals. Murphy added three goals and two assists and Courtney Reuter (Newark, NY/Newark) also scored three times.
Gray chipped in with two goals and Leia Hayward (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had an assist.
Craig Chamberlain was named regional Coach of the Year.
MCC hosts the NJCAA women's lacrosse national tournament next weekend on John L. DiMarco Field. Details will be posted soon.
