ROCHESTER - A spot in the NJCAA Division II national tournament will be on the line this weekend on Monagan Court, as Monroe Community College is set to host the 2017 Region III, Division II women's basketball tournament.
The Tribunes have earned the top seed on the strength of a perfect 10-0 Western New York Athletic Conference mark during the regular season. Seventh-ranked MCC enters the tournament with a 24-3 record and winners of 13 straight.
The tourney officially started Wednesday evening as Genesee defeated Jamestown in a play-in game. The Cougars will take on Monroe at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first semifinal.
The other semifinal pits second-seeded Niagara County Community College with No. 3 Erie CC at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The championship game will tip off at 1 p.m. Sunday. Monroe won the regional championship a year ago on its way to a fourth-place finish at the national tournament.
This year's nationals will take place in Harrison, Ark., on the campus of North Arkansas College, March 21-25.
