Huge second half lifts Monroe
A 36-0 run in the second half vaults Monroe past Herkimer.
ROCHESTER – Monroe Community College outscored Herkimer County CC 56-15 over the final 20 minutes to win going away, 94-44, in women's basketball action at the Pete Pavia Memorial Scholarship tournament Sunday.
The Tribunes led by just nine at the break before turning up the defensive intensity to open the second half. MCC forced 23 turnovers and had a 36-0 run that put the game away.
Tyese Purvis (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) led the way with 16 points for Monroe (7-4). Ayana Ratliff (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) added 14 points, and Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Monroe outrebounded Herkimer 60-29, including 12 by Alexis Johnson (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton) and 10 from Donisha Watson (Bronx, NY/Mt. Vernon)
Watson and Dionne Coe (Brooklyn, NY/Murray Bergtraum) chipped in with nine points apiece, and Tyra Jones (Rochester, NY/East), Karin Robinson (Queens, NY/Mary Louis Academy), and Sydni Lester (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) had eight each.
