Thuman's huge day leads Monroe to sweep of Hudson Valley

ROCHESTER - The Monroe Community College softball team hosted the Vikings from Hudson Valley Sunday afternoon. The Tribunes won both games of the doubleheader by the scores of 14-1 and 18-2. With the victories over Hudson Valley, the team moves closer to .500 with a record of 9-11.

In game one, the Tribunes were led by the strong play of catcher Tori Thuman and pitcher Bri Wagner. Thuman paced the Tribune offense with six RBIs on four hits. She also scored two runs. Wagner had a stellar day on the mound only allowing one run to score and striking out four opposing batters.

Also highlighting for MCC were Amanda Gillen, Taylor House, and Jenny Pearl. Gillen drove in three runs while House and Pearl each scored three times.

The second game of the doubleheader was much of the same as it was in the first. Thuman had another amazing game at the plate with four hits, two runs scored, and eight runs batted in.

Larissa Brower got the win for the Tribunes in game two. Brower had an outstanding day as she gave up two runs and struck out three. Gillen, House, and Pearl continued their strong play in game two, fueling MCC's offense.

Adding to Monroe's offense were Emily DeFilippo and Ellie Ramirez. DeFilippo had two RBIs and a run scored. Ramirez added a pinch-hit two-run base hit.

The Tribunes look to extend their six-game winning streak as they travel to Finger Lakes Community College on Thursday, April 27. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
