Tribunes fall to Brookdale at nationals
Monroe finishes in fourth place at the national tournament.
ROCHESTER, Minnesota - The MCC softball team finished in fourth place at the 2013 NJCAA Division III national tournament after losing 5-3 to Brookdale CC Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes wrap up the season with a record of 26-17.
After rain washed out Friday's schedule completely, the Tribunes were faced with a herculean task Saturday. In order to take the national title, Monroe would have to win five consecutive games in a span of 10 hours. MCC defeated Itasca CC 7-6 before losing to Brookdale.
The Tribunes split two games on opening day at the tournament Thursday.
The Tribunes kicked things off in style, defeating St. Cloud Community & Technical College 8-0 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
No. 4 Monroe then fell to eighth-seeded Dutchess CC 6-4. Dutchess had also knocked off top-seeded Brookdale College earlier in the day.
