ROCHESTER - Heading into the stretch run of the regular season, MCC's slow start to the campaign seems so long ago.
The Tribunes (12-12), who started the year with 12 consecutive losses, evened their record by defeating Columbia Greene CC 10-2 and 8-0 Sunday afternoon. All 12 victories have come in Region III, Division III play, putting Monroe at the top of the regional standings.
Tabby McBride (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) homered in both ends of the doubleheader for MCC, which has won its last eight games via the mercy rule. The Tribunes totaled 30 hits in the two games.
Alexis Haley (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) got the win in the opener, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out eight to improve to 5-5 on the season.
Angela Sims (Geneva, NY/Geneva) went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs in game one. Morgan Simmons (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) added three hits and three runs batted in, and Chrissy Rennard (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Jenna Clarke (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had three hits apiece.
Taylor Grieger (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) stifled the Twins in game two, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out three. Haley had a pair of doubles and Clarke added two hits and two RBIs for MCC. Simmons and Rennard had two hits apiece.
