BUFFALO - A potent offensive attack led the MCC softball team to a doubleheader sweep of host Erie CC Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes won 23-1 and 17-3 to increase their winning streak to six games. MCC is now 6-0 in Region III and 6-12 overall.
Monroe wasted no time getting things rolling, scoring eight runs in the first inning and seven more in the second in the opener. The Tribunes had 24 hits on the game.
Joanna Bardak (Amherst, NY/Amherst) finished 4-for-5 with three doubles, five runs scored, and four runs driven in. Tabby McBride (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) was 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs.
Alexis Haley (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) got the win, allowing one run on two hits over five innings. She also helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Lateja Bryant (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) had four hits and drove in two, and Morgan Simmons (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) added three hits and four runs scored. Allee Jurewicz (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Angela Sims (Geneva, NY/Geneva), Brianna Bush (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), and Jenna Clarke (Brockport, NY/Brockport) all added two hits apiece.
Bardak continued to hit in the second game, going 4-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Haley added three hits, including a home run, and drove in four, while Bryant had three hits and two RBIs.
McBride and Jurewicz had two hits apiece, and Sims added a three-run homer. Taylor Grieger (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) allowed one earned run and struck out five over five innings for the victory.
