Tribunes make it four in a row with sweep

ROCHESTER - Two sterling pitching performances and some timely hitting helped the MCC softball team sweep Jefferson CC in a region III, Division III doubleheader Tuesday.
The Tribunes won the opener 8-0, and then pulled away from the Cannoneers to win the nightcap 6-2.
Brianna Bush (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) tossed the shutout in game one, allowing four hits while striking out nine.
The Tribunes jumped out to a quick lead as Joanna Bardak (Amherst, NY/Amherst) led off the home half of the first with a home run. Bardak then doubled in a run in the second to make it 2-0.
Monroe then got four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the game away. The Tribunes had nine hits on the game.
The nightcap was tied at two heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Tribunes broke it open. The big blow was a pinch-hit, two-run double off the bat of Angela Sims (Geneva, NY/Geneva). Jenna Clarke (Brockport, NY/Brockport) then added a measure of insurance with a long two-run homer.
Alexis Haley (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) went the distance for the Tribunes, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out 12. Tabby McBride (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) finished with two hits and a run scored.
