MCC starts regional action with DH sweep
The Tribunes take two from Onondaga for first wins of the season.

ROCHESTER - The MCC softball team put a slow start in the rear view mirror with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Onondaga CC Thursday afternoon.
The Tribunes prevailed 8-0 and 2-1 to move to 2-12 overall and 2-0 in the region.
Monroe jumped out to an early lead in the opener with four runs in the first. Alexis Haley (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) and Tabby McBride (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) had consecutive singles before MCC worked three consecutive walks. Lateja Bryant (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) capped the inning with a run-scoring single.
MCC added single runs in the second and third, and Chrissy Rennard's (Brockport, NY/Brockport) two-run double in the fifth made it 8-0 and put the mercy rule into effect.
Haley was stellar on the mound, earning the shutout while allowing three hits and striking out seven.
Joanna Bardak (Amherst, NY/Amherst) had three hits and McBride added two hits and two RBIs. Taylor Grieger (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) added two hits as well.
Game two was close throughout, and the score was tied at one entering the bottom of the sixth. McBride started things with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Angela Sims (Geneva, NY/Geneva). Allee Jurewicz (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) then singled to drive in the go-ahead run.
Grieger got the win on the mound, scattering five hits and striking out eight.
Jurewicz finished 3-for-3 at the plate for MCC. Rennard and Bardak added two hits apiece, and Haley drove in the first run with a first-inning double.
