Monroe men have healthy lead after day one
The Tribunes lead second-place Suffolk by 113 points.
ROCHESTER - The MCC men's swimming and diving team got off to a great start during the first day of the 2013 Region III/Northeast District championship Friday.
TheTribunes wrapped up day one with 195 points, which is 113 ahead of second-place Suffolk County.
Leading the way was the 400-yard medley relay team of Tyler Webster (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman), Gaitan Gehin (Lausanne, Switzerland/August Piccard), Kevin Burns (Ravena, NY/RCS), and Connor Kilmer (Auburn, NY/Auburn), who set a new meet record in winning in a time of 3:38.95.
Other winners included the 200 free relay team of Brandon Sears (Corning, NY/Corning East), Webster, Samuel Rice (Fairport, NY/Fairport), and Kilmer in 1:29.61.
Burns won individually as well, taking first in the 500 free in 4:47.69. Sears won the 50 free (22.73).
The tournament continues Saturday, with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
