Tribunes coast past Roberts JV

ROCHESTER - The MCC men's soccer team tuned up for an upcoming regional contest with a 5-0 thrashing of the Roberts Wesleyan JV Redhawks Wednesday evening.

The Tribunes (9-3-2) will host Mercyhurst North East on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the back end of a home-and-home series that decides the Region III, Division I champion.  Monroe won the first game 2-0 on Sept. 30 and will claim the regional title with a win in regulation or overtime Saturday.

MCC wasted little time against Roberts, as Anthony Paris connected just 42 seconds in on what would end up the game-winning goal.

Matt Englert then took over for the Tribunes. The sophomore forward scored the next three goals - his second hat trick of the season - as MCC took a 4-0 lead into the break.

Jevaughn Ellis converted a penalty kick in the second half to close out the scoring. Jordan Sullivan tallied two assists on the day with Ryan Gray adding one.

Monroe outshot Roberts 52-0 and held a 14-1 advantage in corners.  Kyle Bimek did not have to make a save in registering the shutout for Monroe.
