ROCHESTER - The MCC men's lacrosse team used a huge advantage at the faceoff circle to create scoring opportunities, and the result was a convincing, 22-5 win over Herkimer College Sunday afternoon.
Tucker Hill spearheaded the efforts at midfield for the Tribunes (3-4), who won 23-of-27 faceoffs overall. Hill was 21-for-25 while scooping a career-best 17 ground balls. Reed Perestam took two faceoffs and won them both.
Monroe wasted little time in any of the four quarters as the team turned its faceoff success into quick shot attempts. Perestam got Monroe on the board 36 seconds into the game and MCC dominated the opening 15 minutes, taking a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.
The Tribunes then scored a pair of man-up goals within the first minute of the second quarter to further take command. Hill tallied the first to make it 7-0, and Anthony Kimber followed 20 seconds later for an eight-goal lead. MCC led 13-1 at the half.
It was more of the same in the third as Mitchell Summers found the back of the net just 13 seconds in to make it 14-1. The Generals got a pair back, but Monroe led 16-3 heading to the fourth.
MCC then put on an incredible display leading off the final stanza. The Tribunes scored four times in a matter of 49 seconds as Kimber, Perestam, Brett Cunningham, and Cruz Mayberry all found the back of the net within the first minute.
Mayberry finished with five goals and four assists and Kimber had five goals and one assist to pace MCC. Perestam added four goals and four assists, Cunningham had three goals and two assists, and Summers tacked on two goals and two assists. Adam Williams and Abdul Yoruk scored once each.
