MCC tops TC3 in nail-biter

DRYDEN, New York - The ninth-ranked MCC men's lacrosse team came out on top in a defensive battle on wednesday, defeating host Tompkins Cortland Community College 6-4.

The Tribunes (2-0) led 2-0 after the first quarter and 4-3 at the half as goals were tough to come by. The teams played through a scoreless third quarter before Monroe outscored TC3 2-1 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

Andrew Kausch provided solid play in the cage for MCC, coming up with 15 saves.

The Tribunes jumped out to an early lead as Matt McDowell and Jake Moss scored to make it 2-0. The Panthers cut the deficit in half before Kasey Olsen and Curtis Raymond found the back of the cage to make it 4-1 heading toward the end of the first half.

But TC3 responded with a pair of scores down the stretch to make it a one-goal contest heading to intermission.

After a scoreless third, the Tribunes came out in the fourth looking to stretch their lead. David Lehman and Nick Wilder both scored as Monroe took a 6-3 lead.

TC3 cut the lead back to two with just over seven minutes left, but Kausch and the Tribune defense was up to the task the rest of the way.
