Unbeaten Onondaga too much for Monroe in title game
The Lazers cruise to another regional championship.
HERKIMER, NY - Unbeaten and top-ranked Onondaga CC was too much for Monroe Community College, as the Lazers defeated the Tribunes 24-6 to claim the Region III men's lacrosse championship.
OCC led 14-1 at the half and ensured a trip to next weekend's NJCAA national tournament. MCC lost out on an at-large bid and finishes the season with a record of
15-6.
Brad Hutton (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had three goals to lead Monroe. Erik Kleehammer (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) added a goal and an assist, and Zach Yehl (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Torry Whitcher (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) also scored.
Goalie Alex Howell (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) made 21 saves.
Hutton, Howell and John Murray (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) were named to the All-Tournament team.
