Tribune hockey routs Erie
Monroe wins 9-1 to sweep the season series with the Kats.
ROCHESTER - The MCC ice hockey team scored the game's first nine goals and cruised to a 9-1 victory over Erie CC Wednesday evening.
The win capped a season sweep of the Kats. MCC is now 14-7 on the year and finishes a perfect 10-0 against Region III opponents.
Andrew Sanders (Bakersfield, CA/Liberty) got the Tribunes on the board early in the first, one-timing a blast off a face-off win by Dan Going (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) for a 1-0 lead.
Mike Boyd (Vancouver, BC/Sullivan Heights) then sandwiched a pair of goals around a score by Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) to give Monroe a 4-0 lead after one.
John Papas (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) added a goal in the second period, and the rout was on.
Tom Dehr (Varysburg, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) was strong in the net, stopping 33 shots. Erie finally broke the shutout with 1:35 left in the game.
Sanders added a score in the third period and finished with two goals and an assist. Boyd added two goals and two assists, and Tyler Underhill (Marilla, NY/St. Francis) scored a pair of goals. Mike Layman (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had MCC's other score.
