ROCHESTER - The Monroe Community College ice hockey team continued its perfect run through Region III, defeating Broome CC 5-1 Saturday at the Sports Centre at MCC.
The Tribunes improved to 9-0 in regional play and 12-6 overall. The team heads to Montreal next weekend to take on Ulysse.
Andrew Sanders (Bakersfiled, CA/Liberty) got the Tribs on the board less than four minutes into the game. Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) then made it 2-0 Monroe with 6:31 remaining in the opening period.
Broome cut the lead in half just before the first intermission, but Corey Kifner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) restored the two-goal advantage midway through the second.
MCC put the game away with a pair of third-period goals, as Dan Going (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Mike Boyd (Vancouver, BC/Sullivan Heights) scored to provide the final margin.
Tom Dehr (Varysburg, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) made 17 saves in goal for Monroe.Boyd and Turgeon also added assists.
