Tribunes fly past Erie
MCC picks up a key regional victory by topping Erie 9-3.
ROCHESTER – Monroe Community College scored three goals in each period en route to a 9-3 victory over Erie Community College in a Region III ice hockey showdown Tuesday night.
The victory moved MCC to 5-0 in the region and 7-2 overall.
Corey Kifner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) scored three goals to pace Monroe.
The Tribunes raced to a 3-0 lead before the Kats cut into the deficit with a goal right before the first intermission. The teams traded goals early in the second before MCC scored two more to make it 6-2 entering the final period.
Erie got one back to make it 6-3, but Monroe tallied three unanswered to put the game away.
Mike Boyd (Vancouver, BC/Sullivan Heights) finished with two goals and two assists, and Tyler Underhill (Marilla, NY/St. Francis) had a goal and two assists. Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) added a goal and one assist.
Tomas Busek (Beroun, Czech Republic/Manazerska) and Mason Richardson (Raleigh, NC/Lincoln) had the other goals for Monroe. Tim Young (Chili, NY/Aquinas) had three assists and Cameron Randles (Canyon Country, CA/Pete Knight) two.
Tom Dehr (Varysburg, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) stopped 21 shots in goal.
