Streaking Tribunes take care of Mercyhurst

NORTH EAST, Penn. - The MCC men's basketball team kicked off the spring semester the same way they ended the fall - with a victory.

Mike Kelly Jr. had 19 points and nine rebounds, and the Tribunes won for the 12th time in 13 games with an 83-58 win over Mercyhurst North East Wednesday night.

After starting the season unranked, MCC has played its way into the national Top 10. The Tribunes currently sit at eighth in the NJCAA Division 2 national rankings.

Kelly hit 8-of-9 from the field and helped anchor a defense that harassed the Saints into 32 percent shooting (22-for-68) from the floor.  Conversely, Monroe shot 51 percent overall, including 46 percent from beyond the arc.

Gilberto Cue hit four 3's and scored 16 of his 17 as MCC raced out to a 22-point lead at the half.  MCC also received a big boost from the bench. Ryan Beckles also connected on four 3's on his way to a career-high 16 points, and Jaymes Jackson was 6-for-7 from the floor and tallied 14 points.
