MCC to host Region III men's hoops tournament this weekend
The Tribunes are the top seed in the tournament.
ROCHESTER - Thanks to a successful regular season, the MCC men's basketball team has earned the right to host this weekend's Region III, Division II tournament.
The tournament semifinals will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Saturday, with Sunday's championship slated to tip off at 1 p.m. MCC (26-3) will play the 1 p.m. game Saturday against Mercyhurst North East, which defeated Genesee 97-94 in Tuesday's quarterfinals.
Erie Community College is seeded second and will take on Niagara County CC, which beat Jamestown Community College 87-68 Tuesday.
Monroe earned the top seed based on a 13-1 record in regional play during the regular season. Erie finished second at 12-2, followed by Niagara County (11-3), Mercyhurst (7-7), Genesee (6-8), and Jamestown (4-10).
The winner of the regional tournament will host a district championship game on March 9 for the right to advance to the NJCAA Division II national tournament in Danville, Ill., March 19-23.
