MCC men's basketball heads to nationals
The Tribunes are chasing the program's first national championship.
DANVILLE, Illinois - The MCC men's basketball team finds itself in a familiar position this week - in the running for an NJCAA Division II national championship. After all, this is the fourth trip the team has made to Danville Area Community College in the last seven years.
The only unfamiliar aspect is hoisting the trophy at the end. And it's the one thing this year's squad is looking to change.
Monroe (29-3) will be gunning for its first-ever national title starting Wednesday, as the second-seeded Tribunes take on Howard Community College in the final game of the first round. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern.
MCC qualified for nationals by defeating Erie Community College in the Region III title game before knocking off Community College of Rhode Island in the District 2 championship. The Tribunes have won nine straight.
