MCC men finish fifth at nationals
The Tribunes finish the tournament strong by defeating South Suburban 76-69.
DANVILLE, Illinois - The MCC men's basketball team finished its season in style Saturday, defeating South Suburban College 76-69 to earn fifth place at the 2013 NJCAA Division II national tournament.
The victory was the 32nd of the season for the Tribunes, who finish 32-4. That win total ties the most in a single-season in program history, equaling the previous mark set in 1994.
Monroe shot an incredible 29-of-45 from the field, which was good for 64 percent. That efficiency helped limit South Suburban's transition game and helped hold the Bulldogs to just 19 rebounds overall.
Greg Williams (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) led Monroe with 19 points. Dallas Gary (Buffalo, NY/East) tallied 16 points and five rebounds, and Arnold Fripp (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Collegiate) added 12 points and five boards.
Reuben Berry (Bronx, NY/Danbury) was 5-for-5 from the floor and finished with 11 points for the Tribunes. MCC's bench, which has been strong all tournament, continued its fine play by outscoring their Bulldog counterparts 42-19.
