Monroe Community College Athletics
SCORE Program
The SCORE program offers a sequence of services to student-athletes which will provide the necessary tools to assist them with developing an academic and career path. The athletic department, Career and Transfer Center, Counseling and Advising Center, and Health Services collaborate to promote student learning and student success.
How MCC’s student-athletes benefit:
- College students who are more active and involved with Student Services are more likely to be academically successful.
- Individuals who identify their areas of study earlier in their academic pursuits are more successful academically.
- Top achievers build their lives on their greatest strengths, manage their weaknesses, and invent ways to take their talents into areas where they want to improve and increase their performance, among other positive attributes.
The SCORE program is a four-phase program that guides the student-athlete to determine a career path early in the student-athlete’s college experience. An academic advisor will assist with course scheduling and choice of major, so that transferring to a four-year college will be a smooth transition. This will allow the student-athlete to be eligible for athletic scholarships and competition immediately upon transferring.
The StrengthsQuest Assessment is also available for student-athletes to access their personal strengths and weaknesses and for their coaches to better enhance student-athlete success on and off the playing field.
Phase One: Orientation of the Career and Transfer Center
- Focus: Develop a career-minded approach to assist student-athletes in determining career paths, allowing them to choose a major that will transfer to a four-year institution.
Phase Two: StrengthsQuest Program
- Focus: Each student-athlete will complete a StrengthsQuest assessment. The outcome of this assessment will help the student-athlete to better understand his or her strengths, and how this may help in choosing a career path and assisting in the transfer to a four-year institute. This will also help coaches assist the student-athlete on and off the playing field.
Phase Three: Career and Transfer Center Workshop
- Focus: Identify potential colleges for transfer purposes. This is a collaborative effort between the Career and Transfer Center and the head coach.
Phase Four: StrengthsQuest/Health Based Workshops
- Focus: Each team will participate in a health workshop designed to assist student-athletes with life skill development.
