MCC celebrates opening of baseball field
The state-of-the-art facility is officially open for the Tribunes.
ROCHESTER - Monroe Community College officially unveiled its sparkling new baseball diamond in a ceremony Thursday afternoon.
The new home of the Tribune baseball program boasts synthetic turf on all areas except for the pitching mound. The surface allows the team to play in weather conditions that would've caused cancellations in previous years.
"It's a great day for MCC Baseball," said Monroe Director of Athletics Skip Bailey, who played for the Tribunes under program pioneer H. David Chamberlain before succeeding him as head coach in 1997.
The field was designed by Parrone Engineering and constructed by Villager Construction, Inc. Villager broke ground on June 28, 2012, and wrapped up the project on Nov. 2.
Highlights of the facility include the state-of-the-art synthetic turf provided by A-Turf, the same surface used by the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium. There is also a 40-foot backstop and new dugouts. Measurements are 320' down the lines, 375' in the power alleys, and 400' to dead center.
