Monroe men hold on to third at halfway point at nationals

FORT PIERCE, Florida - The MCC men's swimming and diving team kept its grip on third place after the second day of the NJCAA national meet Thursday.

The Tribunes trail only host Indian River and South Georgia State. The Monroe women are ninth heading into Friday's action.

Gabriel Knaut picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200 Free in a time of 1:42.85 to highlight the men's evening session. Cameron Wagner finished seventh in the same event in 1:48.02.

Loren Searle placed sixth in 3-meter diving (275.40), while Ben Metzger was seventh in the 100 Fly (51.91). Noah Burr and Greg Sanders were ninth (4:22.50) and 10th (4:24.66), respectively, in the 400 IM.

The 400 Medley Relay team of Burr, Greg Sanders, Metzger, and Knaut was third in 3:40.86. Knaut, Alex Parks, Parker Stone, and Metzger teamed to place fourth in the 200 Free Relay in 1:29.04.

On the women's side, Alicia Shenal placed fourth in the 50 Back in a new team, regiona and district record time of 27.85. Ashley VanDermeer placed fifth in the 400 IM in 4:53.74.

The 400 Medley Relay team of Shenal, Jasmine VanScooter, VanDermeer, and DeClerck was sixth in a time of 4:38.84. Shenal's time of 58.69 in the lead leg (100 back) also set team, regional and district marks.
