FT. PIERCE, Florida - The MCC men's swimming and diving team is in third place after Wednesday's opening day of the 2018 NJCAA championship meet at Indian River Sate College.
The Tribune women are in eighth heading to Thursday's second day. The meet wraps up Saturday.
Gabriel Knaut led the Monroe men to a strong start. The freshman placed fourth in the 50 free (20.88) and fifth in the 50 Breast (27.20). His 50 Breast effort set a new MCC standard.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Noah Burr, Greg Sanders, Ben Metzger, and Knaut zoomed to a third-place finish in a time of 1:37.03.
Other Top-10 performances by the men were turned in by Metzger in the 200 IM (eighth - 1:58.62) and Cameron Wagner in the 1000 Free (seventh - 10:15.82).
On the women's side, Ashley VanDermeer was sixth in the 1000 (11:06.94) and Alicia Shenal was seventh in the 50 free (24.78). The 200 medley relay team of Emily DeClerck, VanDermeer, Andrea Toussaint, and Shenal was eighth in a time of 1:59.17.
