ALBANY - A pair of sophomore student-athletes were among eight MCC students who have been honored as recipients of this year's SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
Women's basketball player Abby White and women's lacrosse player Charity Warner were lauded at a ceremony last week in Albany. The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence honors State University of New York students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts.
White has played basketball for two years at Monroe and captained this year's squad to a 29-4 record, the Region III championship, and a third-place finish at the NJCAA Division II national tournament. The point guard from Irondequoit led the Tribunes in assists and was among team leaders in 3-point percentage.
Warner is a two-year member of the Tribune women's lacrosse team. The midfielder from Penfield was an All-American and helped lead Monroe to an 18-0 record and its fourth consecutive NJCAA national title in 2016. The Tribunes have won their first four games of the 2017 season to run their winning streak to 72 games.
