MCC places second in race for NATYCAA Cup
It is the program's highest finish since 2010.
CLEVELAND - The Monroe Community College athletic program has finished in second place in the scholarship division for the 2012-2013 NATYCAA Cup.
Rankings in the NATYCAA Cup are formulated by awarding NJCAA institutions with points based on competition at NJCAA Championship events. A first place finish is worth 20 points; second place is worth 19 points; etc. The top five male and female finishes from each school qualify for points in the standings.
Iowa Central CC won the Scholarship Division for the fifth
straight year, finishing with 181 points.
MCC finished with 153 points. Iowa Western CC was third with
142.
Monroe was paced by the women's lacrosse team, which won its third NJCAA national championship in four years. The Tribune ice hockey team was runner-up at nationals, while the men's soccer team placed third.
The men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, and softball teams all finished fourth in their respective national tournaments.
Other sports placing at nationals were men's basketball (fifth) and men's golf (sixth). The women's soccer squad was also a national tournament participant.
The 2012-2013 academic year marks the 10th year of the NATYCAA
Awards Program. NATYCAA (National Alliance of Two-Year College
Athletic Administrators) is the national organization of all
two-year athletic administrators from the United States.
MCC took top honors in 2006 and 2007, and has finished second three
other times.
